Tuesday 14 May was a bit of an overwhelming day: missing Alice Munro, queen of the short story; taking part in a brilliant event about feminist book history & future at Feminist Bookshop in Brighton – and finding out that TRUTH & DARE is in incredible company on their 2024 Selected Twenty, a revival of a Feminist Book Fortnight celebration from the 1980s <3 As a independent bookseller of 28 years’ duration, and a former staff member at the legendary Toronto Women’s Bookstore where I learned everything I knew, this means SO MUCH.
As does hearing the same evening that SPACE CRONE is in the 2024 Locus Awards‘ top ten Non-Fiction titles, as voted for in a public readers’ vote. Locus, like so many magazines, is the home and nebula of so many short fiction writers, and it’s a huge honour to know that SPACE CRONE has connected with their discerning readers. We can’t wait for the hybrid awards ceremony on 22 June (virtual tickets available!), where Connie Willis will be a fierce feminist guest of honour.
